My Review of "Connected" by Kat Stiles

Enjoyable! I received an advance copy of Y.A. novel “Connected” by Kat Stiles for an honest review. It’s an enjoyable tale about Emily Milford, a high school sophomore with a newly discovered power to heal. She just happens to have a best friend, Roz, with an ability to see into the future, and a new boyfriend, Tommy, who could hear and see from great distances.  With a tight friendship among this trio and a school nurse, Judy, with healing powers of her own, the teens embark on a local mystery to solve a murder and prevent anyone else from getting hurt.

The main characters are believable and their interactive banter fun to read. The villain, Dr. Keith Hayes, is a bit one dimensional, but the depth of the three main characters seems to overshadow that deficiency. Some of the scenes between Emily and Tommy seemed to end abruptly, not allowing the reader to completely enjoy the few moments they spent alone together. However, the overall cadence of the story kept me interested from beginning to end. I enjoyed the little twists as I learned about the extent of their abilities. And what’s up with Emily’s memories about her father? I can hardly wait to get the scoop on that thread and learn more about how much Tommy is truly capable of. I must admit Tommy’s my favorite character.

I absolutely recommend this novel and look forward to part two of this enjoyable story.

Introducing Em on the "Connected" Blog Tour.

Character blog – Em

Another summer gone. Wish I had some exciting news to report, an interesting vacation story, a whirlwind summer romance with a handsome stranger… hell, even a decent new horror movie would’ve been something. We were supposed to drive down to the beach last month, but my mom got called back in to work. Again.
As pathetic as it sounds, I spent most of my summer break vegging on the couch with my best friend Roz. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t have survived freshman year. She says this year will be better. Hard to imagine, but it can’t be worse than last year, right?
Sometimes I wish I could start over in a brand new town, somewhere they’ve never heard of me. Or my hands. And without Lauren would be nice, too. I see those shows on TV with big sisters that are so loving and supporting and I can’t help but laugh. Don’t know why I’m even blogging, I mean, no one’s going to read it. Except maybe Roz.
Oh that reminds me, will you please change your voicemail message? It’s downright painful to leave you a message lately.

High school is hard enough, Em knows. Her freshman year introduced her to all the cliques, annoying teachers, and tough homework assignments. But discovering you have super powers and not knowing how to control them is a whole new level of complicated.

Thankfully, Em isn’t alone. Her best friend Roz starts having unusual dreams that come true, and Tommy, Em’s secret crush, can hear the softest whispers in class.

A romance blossoms with Tommy. But just as things are looking up, people start dropping like flies. A telepathic serial killer is on the loose and only Em and her friends have a hope of stopping him.

Or do they? If they don’t figure out the killer’s identity soon, one of them could be next.

Bio

Kat Stiles is a super hero geek at heart. She grew up watching Spiderman, X-men and Superfriends cartoons, and she loved the idea of having super powers. The superhero movies that came out delighted her; even the bad ones were still so much fun. And she remembers wishing the series, “Heroes” would go on forever. With Connected, she tried to keep the abilities as organic as possible – something just a little beyond what a normal human can do. She’s met some pretty incredible people in her life, and her experiences greatly influenced the writing of Connected.

Bio:

Kat Stiles is the mother of a three-year-old girl and a beautiful baby boy whose smiles warm her heart every day. Their father is a sweet, amazing man she's totally head over heels for, even if he’s not a morning person. She also shares her home with three dogs: a lab, a larger terrier mix, and what they think is a chi-weenie mix; as well as three cats, all American short-hairs. The smallest female cat, a black and white tuxedo, is the alpha male of the household and keeps everyone in line. Yes, it is as hectic as it sounds. Yes, she's perpetually covered in hair of some sort. And before you ask, she doesn’t dress up the chi-weenie in tiny outfits. It’s much funnier to watch him get his head stuck in random items, like chip bags or tissue boxes.

Connected is her debut book and the first in the series and will be releasing by Wild Child Publishing on June 3, 2015.

The Mind Keeps Going...

It never ceases to amaze me that my brain keeps coming up with new scenes although my schedule is too saturated to write. It's during those moments that I miss editing my previous work where my mind decides to give me a present. At times, the scenes come in gentle waves, but at others, they push their need to be written all the way to my fingertips or threaten to prevent me from concentrating on whatever it is that's keeping me occupied.

I smile at those times, grab a pen, and write.
